Resources
TechnologyBlueair's patented HEPASilent technology combines the best features of electrostatic and mechanical filter technology to enable the delivery of more clean air at a faster rate with less noise. Phenomenally low power usage minimizes energy consumption. Plus Blueair air purifiers actually reduce the levels of ozone in indoor air.

How it works:
Air is drawn into the Blueair system via the ultra-quiet fan.
- Airborne particles pass through an ion chamber and are electrically charged. This causes them to adhere effortlessly to the exclusive polypropylene filters.

- Charged particles are removed in the 3-Stage Progressive Filter.
Stage 1 captures larger particles like pollen and dust. Stages 2 and 3 filter out even the smallest particles like cigarette smoke and exhaust. Together, the encapsulated ion chamber and 3-Stage Filtration Process combine to create Blueair's patented HEPASilent technology delivering maximum airflow with minimum noise.
3-Stage Progressive filter combines 3 filters in 1.
Why do Blueair filters trap six times more dirt than filters in typical air purifiers?
The reason is the filter's progressive structure. Most filters from other air purifier manufacturers are thinner and usually consist of the same size fiber throughout. Blueair filters have millions of ultra thin fibers in three different sizes. Thus the name progressive. The first layer captures larger particles like pollen & dust. The second and third capture smaller particles like bacteria and exhaust.
Their filter design resists loading or clogging and continues filtration at peak performance levels longer. When the filter needs to be replaced (every six months), just open the lid, lift out the old filters and drop the new ones in. No screws, hooks or tools and less than one minute of your time is required. Blueair filters require no weekly additives or filter washing.

Certifications

Energy Star Certified: Energy Star is a trusted government backed label that makes it easy for consumers to identify products that will help save money and help save the environment. To become Energy Star Certified a product must have its energy consumption measured and verified to save money and if the product is more expensive than other, less efficient products consumers must be able to recoup their investment within a reasonable period of time. In addition, the product must be shown to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants caused by the inefficient use of energy.

Zero Ozone Certification: In order for any air cleaning device to be sold in California it must meet the state of California's standards. The product must be tested for electrical safety and meet strict ozone concentration limits of 0.050 parts per million.

Excellent Swedish Design Award: The Excellent Swedish Design award is awarded to products that in one way or another drive development, make everyday life easier and more pleasant, simplify work life or point the way to a sustainable society.

National Health & Wellness Club: The National Health & Wellness Club is dedicated to finding products that will help people live a happier, healthier life. To see if products are able to provide this to consumers they send products to their members to be tested and if they receive a positive review they will recommended the product.

Hepasilent Technology: Blueair's patented Hepasilent Technology allows their air purifiers to be highly effective, efficient and quiet.

Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) Certified: The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers developed a way to test all portable air cleaning products' ability to remove smoke, pollen and dust from the air which is referred to as the Clean Air Delivery Rate or CADR. The maximum scores for CADR are 450 for pollen and smoke and 400 for dust.
Long Lasting
The housing is made of galvanized steel, rather than petroleum-based plastic because steel is more durable than plastic, so the housing holds up better over time.
Earth-Friendly Materials
Blueair strives to use environmentally friendly materials to manufacture its products so that they can be recycled at the end of their useful service life. When you are ready to replace your Blueair unit, you'll find the entire system designed for quick disassembly to make recycling easy and practical. Should a Blueair unit end up in a landfill instead of being recycled, its steel housing releases no toxins into the environment. Blueair systems also use a special powder coat finish that produces no chemical outgassing.
No Chemical Additives
Because polypropylene fibers are waterproof, Blueair systems do not require the use of chemical-based bacteriostats or mold inhibitors. Instead of absorbing the moisture in which bacteria thrive, polypropylene repels water and naturally prevents bacteria, mold and mildew from reproducing inside the filter.
Energy Efficiency
Blueair's advanced fan assembly consumes very little energy. In fact, these systems use no more power than a single light bulb: from 5 to 20 watts on low to 10 to 120 watts on high, depending on the unit. Any appliance that can achieve high efficiency with lower power use helps reduce our overall consumption of fossil fuels.
Energy Star
Additionally, in-room air filtration is recognized as a legitimate tool for improving personal and public health by the Environmental Protection Agency, the American Medical Association, the American Lung Association and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
In 2005, Blueair was among the first to earn the ENERGY STAR designation. The ENERGY STAR program is sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy.
Today, all models exceed ENERGY STAR's minimum energy efficiency guidelines of 2.0 dust CADR to watt ratio (see www.energystar.gov).
Supporting Research
Just as interesting are studies like those published in the New England Journal of Medicine and conducted by researchers at Harvard and BYU showing an a direct link between air quality and longer lifespans in North American cities; clean air means better health for humans and the environment and this product aims take it one step further by cleaning up the air in our homes.
