Charlie's Soap Laundry Detergent Powder is made from a coconut oil base, biodegradable surfactants, lots of soda ash from Green River, WY and a bit of sodium silicate for those greasy stains. You won't find any scents or perfumes here because your Charlie's Soap Laundry Detergent cleans odors away rather than covering them up. Directions
For all of you first time users out there, here is your "how to laundry" lesson to get the most out of your Charlie's Soap Laundry Detergent Powder.
- First, you will want to clean your laundry machine of all of the residue left behind by your old laundry soaps. To do this, just run your washing machine with few rags and two tablespoons of your Charlie's Soap Laundry Detergent Powder. This will take care of most of your remaining residue and the rest will continue to be cleaned away with each use.
- Once your washing machine is cleaned you are ready to start washing your clothes. With Charlie's Soap Laundry Detergent Powder you only need one tablespoon of detergent for each load. You do not even need to adjust how much soap to use for HE machines either because Charlie's Soap dissolves well even with limited water. It may take a few rounds of washing your clothes for you to notice all of the benefits of Charlie's Soap Laundry Detergent Powder - softer clothes, less initiation, lower suds - until your old detergent residue is fully removed from your clothes.
- It may take 3 to 5 washes before those old residues are fully removed and you notice the long lasting benefits of Charlie's Soap for Laundry - low suds, softer clothes, clean scent, etc. When in doubt, rewash.
- For an idea of what your laundry will eventually look like, wash a load of bath towels 3 consecutive times.
- After washing your clothes just toss them in the drier, no laundry softeners are recommended or needed because Charlie's Soap cleans your clothes down to the fibers and rinses free and clear, meaning you don't have to try and cover up soap residue with unnecessary products.
- Always make sure you launder your clothes according to the care instructions found on the tags on your clothes and when in doubt, test your detergents on clothes you think may bleed or fade.
- If you have a particularly difficult stain, you can pre-treat with Charlie's Soap Laundry Detergent Powder, but make sure you give it time to work. This soap was designed to gently wash clothes not blast stains off and take the fabric with them. You can also treat your stains with Charlie's Soap Laundry Pre-Treater Spray for an extra boost of cleaning power.

We have been using this for over 3 years and really love it. Buying in such a large quantity makes it very economical. We don't worry about our children with sensitive skin, have used it with cloth diapers, and find it works very well. One thing to note is that we live in a very humid climate and the soap tends to clump over time. It helps to keep the large bucket in a dry closet and put a small amount in a small bucket in the laundry area. This has helped us greatly!

This soap and the hard water additive they have as saved our laundry (not to mention our washer). Clothes smell clean again and they are so, SO SOFT (and we don't use fabric softener). Gets the ammonia smell out of our cloth diapers, too! I now buy it buy the bucketful. Highly recommend.

I love Charlie's soap. I originally bought it because my children started breaking out in a rash from another detergent. When my first batch was gone, I started making my own soap and it cleaned my clothes, but faded them. I'm back to Charlie's and I love it! I will never try another detergent again! I love this detergent (hence the reason I bought 4 gallons of it when you only use a TB per load), but the bucket arrived totally busted--powder all over my front step and entryway. I called Green Cupboards and they promptly re-shipped (wonderful!), but even still the bucket arrived cracked (though intact for the moment). Although the quantity makes for a great deal, I'm not sure I'll buy this much at one time again, given that you never know how roughly it will be treated in transit.

I've been using Charlie's laundry soap since it was used for washing my granddaughter's cloth diapers 5 years ago. I've gone through a whole 5-gallon bucket (although much was given to friends to try). I love that it is so compact! (One load requires 1 tablespoon.) I transfer it into a canister that sits on a shelf in the laundry area.
It does a great job in cleaning, altho Grandpa and I don't have clothes that have been dragged through the mud or otherwise get very dirty.
I also quit using fabric softener, and now use vinegar which does the trick for most fabrics.

I've been using this detergent for over 6 years now, about one bucket every 18 months (family of five using all cloth in the kitchen), with great results. I was hesitant to buy a large bucket of Charlie's Soap, so tried a small container first. It worked great, so I ordered the 1000 load container. Clothes come out clean and naturally fresh smelling. I've always had trouble with my front-load washer stinking from using liquid detergents and liquid fabric softeners. Now the washer no longer smells. I don't use fabric softeners any more. I can use Charlie's on our toddler and infant grandkids' clothes and bedding when they come visit- no need for expensive baby detergent. I went on a search for no scent detergents when we got a HE washer. The washer and the clothes smelled of the big name brand detergent AND mildew. I formerly used a "free and clear" detergent when I had a top loader. I went online and found Charlie's Soap, no allergens, no smell, no mildew. Love on the label states if you want to smell flowers go pick some. I bought it and love it and now two other women and I buy the large size and share the cost and the Charlies Soap. Charlie's Soap sells itself. I gave the two other women a small amount to try and they love it. I wish I had a store so I could sell it to others looking for a REAL solution to HE washer problems. Charlie's Soap solves two problems at once, the sensitive skin problem AND the problem of HE washer smell. The BIG name brand detergents add scent, a LOT of scent to mask HE washer mildew smell from the seal around the washer door having water sitting there and causing that horrible smell. I don't clean with bleach, I have a septic system and bleach kills off good bacteria in a septic system, If I use Charlies soap, wipe the seal on the washer door and occasionally use an oxygen based clothes cleaner additive to brighten clothes there are no problems and I am not bothered by scent because Charlie's Soap does not have a scent.

Switched to Charlie's from Tide with bleach due to clothes that stunk after being washed. Tide done an excellent job of keeping whites white and colors were good too. Charlie's doesn't work as well on whites, but my clothes don't stink and I'm very happy overall with the product. I use 1/2 cup white vinegar for rinse. I never use dryer sheets or any other fabric softener. I have a water softener due to extremely hard water. You may have trouble keeping family members from using more than one scoop which absolutely is not necessary, no matter the load size. Get the big bucket and give it a chance, you will love it.

My wife and I are very pleased with Charlie's soap. We began using it in March for cloth diapers and were so impressed we will be using it for all our laundry once the bottles of Tide run out.
As others have said, you really only need half a scoop, not a full scoop, per large load. So this $100 (on sale) bucket that normally does 1000 loads should last roughly 2000 loads, which is probably going to be years for us.
I was unsure how a powder would work because I've always used detergents, but the powder is perfectly fine and effective. My only regret is not finding this stuff sooner.
I also plan on using it for my hunting clothes because it is scentless.

We initially bought Charlie's soap when we started using cloth diapers. We quickly decided to use it for all our laundry. I love how natural it is, you only need one little scoop and this huge tub means we won't be hauling laundry soap home from the store any time soon! I've been using this detergent for several months now and am very pleased with it's performance! I've been telling everyone about how great it cleans my cloth diapers and other clothes. Cleans magnificently, does not gunk machine up after years of use (and we have one of those small apartment-sized ones), and clothes don't have that disgusting smell of normal laundry detergent (think Tide). I have had sensitive skin all my life. Ivory soap bothers me but not Charlie's. I only dread the time that falls between orders that I use other detergents as it takes a few washings once I again have Charlie's to get rid of the soap and dirt left behind from other soaps. This is my first order from this site though I have been a Charlie's customer for years and love all the fact that I don't have to wear gloves when using their other products or buy carpet,surface,or degreaser cleaners as the 2 cleaners from Charlie's covers everything!!
