What are Eco-Traits? The Eco-Traits reflect unique, environmentally friendly characteristics of the products we sell. The icons below make it easy to shop at GreenCupboards. Rather than acting as certifications, Eco-Traits describe products. When shopping, look for the Eco-Trait icons on product pages.

Why are Eco-Traits assigned? The Eco-Traits help GreenCupboards meet our goal to communicate transparently by showing shoppers the criteria used when deciding whether or not a product or brand is a fit for the site. Each week, the Green Compliance Team (GCT) uses the Eco-Traits to review supplier manufacturing standards, product composition and uses in order to determine whether or not products are a fit for GreenCupboards’ undertaking to supply products for a better planet.

How can you use them? Being eco-friendly means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. The Eco-Traits help you determine how low impact living fits into your life. The Eco-Traits indicate characteristics to help shoppers single out product attributes important to them. You can even use them as a search filter.

Organic grown and produced without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or hormones. Shop for organic products.

Fair Trade products made or obtained in an equitable compensation from producers and vendors primarily based in developing countries. Shop for fair trade products.

Gluten Free made without any gluten, and processed in a dedicated gluten free facility. Shop for gluten free products.

Vegan made without the use of animal products, animal testing or process that use animal products or byproducts. Shop for vegan products.

Dairy Free products made without the use of dairy. Shop for dairy free products.

Kosher foods made or processed in accordance with Halakhic legal stipulations. Shop for kosher products.

Non-GMO Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) are not used in the products to enhance flavor or alter the genetic material. Shop for non-GMO products.

Non-Toxic products are free of harmful chemicals such as PVC, phthalates, lead or parabens. Shop for non-toxic products.

BPA Free products are not composed of BPA (Bisphenol A). Shop for BPA free products.

Biodegradable products are able to decompose naturally and relatively quickly. Shop for biodegradable products.
