Single serve coffee is the fastest growing segment in the coffee market today. Even though the consumer gets a high quality, cost-effective cup of gourmet drip coffee, many have voiced stark criticism about the blind eye that is being turned toward the environmental impact of the trend. Keurig, owned by Green Mountain Coffee, is the driving force behind this burgeoning market segment. This year alone over 5 billion Keurig K-Cups will be sold, used and then discarded by consumers. Most of those non-biodegradable plastic-and-foil K-Cups will end up in our landfills.
Eko Brands is a Seattle based company determined to be ecologically responsible in the single-serve coffee segment. Because of this conviction, the Ekobrew, a reusable filter for use with Keurig single cup coffee brewing devices, was born. The Ekobrew allows you to brew your favorite coffee in a single-serve size without the environmental impact of standard k-cups. Just one Ekobrew filter can prevent hundreds of plastic k-cups from being tossed in the waste per year.Even the packaging of the Ecobrew reflects Eko Brands' commitment to environmentally conscious practices. Ekobrew could have been packaged in one of many ways. It could have been packaged in non-biodegradable plastic - but that doesn't do a lot for saving the earth. It could have been packed in a cheap, disposable cardboard box. Instead, Ekobrew reusable filters come in attractive, high quality canisters that can be used to store or carry your Ekobrew. What's more, they are 100% biodegradable.
Directions
![]() Four Fundamental Brewing Rules The Ekobrew unit works on the same principles as the best espresso coffee machines. Optimum extraction of the best single serve drip coffee is a product of the perfect grind combined with the perfect amount of coffee to achieve the ideal coffee extraction. By following the basic fundamentals of coffee brewing, you can use the Ekobrew unit to create the perfect cup of drip coffee. The “perfect cup,” by definition, is based on the unique preferences of each and every user. Coffee is not bound by a one-size-fits-all solution, and neither are you. The Ekobrew unit can brew 8, 12 and 16 ounces of fantastic brewed coffee in your Keurig machine. Within those volume preferences, there are a myriad of coffee strength tastes as well. To become your own coffee-brewing expert, you need to know the Four Fundamental Rules of coffee extraction to find your own perfect cup. |
The pump pressure on your Keurig machine does not vary. That is to say even the most sophisticated coffee machine cannot adjust to account for external variables.
The amount of ground coffee you use will vary depending on your taste. The more coffee, the bolder the taste. The Fill Line.
The fresher the coffee, the better the taste will be. Once coffee is ground, the exposed surface of the coffee increases and so will the deterioration rate of the coffee. |
The coarser the grind, the faster the water flows through. The coarser the grind, the more coffee needed to accommodate the same extraction result. A Fine Grind. A Coarse Grind. Grinders. |
