- Ultra-Thin Waterproof Barrier In Center - Waterproof Version Only
Features DrySleep technology, which effectively blocks liquids from passing through while still allowing the fabric to "breathe." Some water vapor is allowed to escape resulting in less "sweaty backs" and a drier, more comfortable sleep. Provides a soft, non-sweaty and comfortable waterproof barrier (as compared to vinyl and rubber). Also blocks dust-mites and other allergens. - Two layers of certified organic cotton flannel - top and bottom
Organic Cotton is an ideal material that is both natural and renewable. It is a healthier alternative to synthetic fibers such as polyester and rayon while avoiding less desirable materials such as allergy-prone wool. Organic cotton is highly absorptive and extra soft and helps reduce uneven temperatures, sweating, and clamminess. - Safe hypoallergenic design free from harmful chemicals
Waterproof barrier is impenetrable to bed bugs, dust mites and other allergens. No vinyl/PVC, phthalates, PFCs or antibacterial/biocide treatments. - Flat pad design
Increases versatility and is held in place by sheet. - Bassinet Size (15" x 30"). Machine wash & dry
Based on years of research, DrySleep technology effectively blocks liquids from passing through the fabric while still allowing the material to "breathe." It features a specially formulated non-toxic medical grade film which effectively blocks liquids while allowing a certain amount of water vapor (similar to humidity naturally found in the air) to pass through. This results in less "sweaty backs" and a drier, more comfortable sleep.
The DrySleep waterproof membrane does not contain any fire retardants or antimicrobial treatments and is free of vinyl/PVC, phthalates and latex rubber. It is also free of all chemicals listed on California's Proposition 65 bulletin. It has been tested for off-gassing and easily passes GREENGUARD's certification standards for eliminating chemical emissions. It is extremely thin (even thinner than the membranes used in the new environmentally friendly cloth diapers).
Vinyl/PVC, latex, and rubber, on the other hand, are very "sweaty". They block all moisture from passing through, creating a more uncomfortable sleeping environment. DrySleep provides full non-toxic waterproof protection without the associated discomfort.
Naturepedic products eliminate hazardous chemicals found in conventional mattresses while offering a more natural and non-toxic alternative for parents. In addition, Naturepedic does not sacrifice critical features and benefits such as waterproofing and a hypoallergenic design. With so many "organic/natural/eco" options available (cotton batting, soybean foam, coconut husks, natural latex/rubber, wool, etc.), it can be difficult to differentiate among the various offerings.
Naturepedic was founded by a quarter century environmental engineer familiar with hazardous chemicals. Through in-depth research, Naturepedic has identified and selected the most natural and non-toxic materials that make sense on a practical level. All Naturepedic products follow these principles and priorities:
- Priority #1: No harmful chemicals.
- Priority #2: No allergenic materials.
- Priority #3: Natural, organic and renewable materials wherever possible.
- Priority #4: Practical design (e.g. easy-to-clean waterproof cover).
- Priority #5: Third party independent testing and verification.
Naturepedic backs up its product development with scientific data. In particular, Naturepedic products are regularly tested for chemical emissions and are certified by GREENGUARD® to meet their strict standards for children.
Naturepedic understands the harm that can come from toxic chemicals and allergenic materials, and is dedicated to the continual development of innovative high quality products that eliminate these risks. Naturepedic carries the most awards and endorsements of any children's mattress company, as well as the best warranty in the industry.
Organic cotton is the purest form of cotton, grown without toxins, synthetic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or GMO's (genetically modified organisms). Organic cotton farmers have developed creative ways to grow cotton without these chemicals. This is accomplished by the use of natural fertilizers, beneficial insects, and innovative weeding techniques.
In baby crib and children's mattresses, organic cotton is a healthier alternative to foams (which are chemically treated) and latex (which is allergy-prone). All Naturepedic organic cotton mattresses feature U.S. grown and certified organic cotton filling and provide a healthier and more comfortable sleep environment.
Certified organic cotton includes the following:
- NO synthetic pesticides
- NO synthetic fertilizers
- NO genetically modified organisms
- NO carcinogenic, mutagenic, teratogenic chemicals
- NO endocrine disruptors
- NO non-biodegradable detergents, degreasers, or surfactants
- NO chlorine bleach
- NO plastisols
- NO other synthetic chemicals
"To reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and prevent suffocation, put your baby to sleep on his/her back in a crib on a firm, flat mattress. Make sure there is no soft bedding underneath your baby."
(Consumer Product Safety Commission, "The Safe Nursery., http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/202.pdf)
The Consumer Product Safety Commission clearly recommends a firm flat sleeping surface for babies. All Naturepedic organic baby crib mattresses are designed to meet this safety recommendation. Avoid contoured surfaces as well as softer quilted surfaces often found on other organic baby crib mattresses. Also avoid adding any soft bedding in the crib.
It's very important that your crib mattress fits properly in your baby's crib. A good safety test allows for no more than two fingers to fit between the mattress and the bars/side of the crib. Naturepedic baby crib mattresses are designed to fit snugly, but if you encounter an unsafe gap, please call us immediately and we will gladly do whatever we can to help resolve the problem.
Small objects can be a choking hazard. Check your baby's crib carefully every time you put her down in her crib. Naturepedic mattresses do not use metal air vents as these can dislodge and become a choking hazard. Removing these vents also leads to a more allergenically sealed construction.
Aside from comfort enhancements, mattress pads are always recommended as a way to protect your baby's crib mattress and keep it clean and hygienic. Non-waterproof crib mattresses that get soiled can easily grow mold and bacteria resulting in a potentially unhealthy situation. Even waterproof mattresses that aren't properly cleaned can grow bacteria on the surface. Use a disinfectant such as hydrogen peroxide to keep the mattress surface clean and hygienic.
