Description

The Dog Casino is the newest interactive wooden puzzle from Nina Ottosson games. The dog should look for treats by pulling out the flaps in different directions. In each flap there is a depression where the treat can be hidden. Increase the degree of difficulty by locking the flaps using the plugs on the top.

Begin by placing treats in all the flaps that can be pulled out. Allow the dog to watch as you put in the treats. The first few times you can make it a little easier for your dog by not pushing the flap all the way in so that the dog can sense the smell and see a little of the treat. Try to get the dog to push the flap with its nose or paw in order to pull it out.

Once the dog has begun to understand how the flaps work you can make it more difficult by pushing the flaps all the way in before the dog begins looking for the treats.

Increase the degree of difficulty
The next step is to lock some of the flaps using the plugs on the top. The dog then has to learn how to lift up the plugs in order to pull out the flaps. A good tip is to place a treat under a plug. Once the dog has understood how the plug works all the flaps can be locked.

If the dog tries to bite the game or the plug, place your hand over it and stop the game. Once the dog has calmed down allow it to try again. If the dog wants to bite repeatedly, teach it how to work using only its paw. If the dog instead wants to jump on the game and use its paw too violently, teach it to work with its nose. A good tip is to place the Dog Casino on a stool which is adapted to the size of the dog and attach a piece of string to the flaps which the dog then needs to pull in order to open the flaps.

Tips and Tricks
  1. Most of the plastic games can be used as a meat-flavored ice cream for dogs by mixing a little canned meat or sausage pieces with water, fill all the hollows in the game, and freeze until it has solidified. The dog will then have a much appreciated, cold and refreshing activity, perfect for hot summer days, and additional activation. Note: only under strict supervision.
  2. Plastic games are easy to clean, which is recommended for dogs that drool or are sick, and if you have several dogs that use the games, eg kennels, day care, dog training, veterinarians and others. The wooden games are heavier and ideal to use for dogs that are rough and intense.
  3. Test how smart or fast your dog is by competing against other dogs. Use 1, 2 or 3 different games simultaneously, depending on how good the dogs are, put a treat in each depth in each game, take time how long it takes for your dog to empty the games. You can also let the dog for 2 minutes try to find all the treats in 1, 2 or 3 games, and when the time is up you count all the pieces that are left.
  4. Set the game on a chair or stool so that the dog can only work with the nose, which can be much more difficult than working with the paws. This is also excellent if the dog is injured and not able to move around.
  5. Hide a game in a blanket or towel and let the dog work its way in to the game.
  6. Tie a string to a game, hide it under a sofa or chair and let the dog try to lift up the game. Very popular among dogs who love the games.
  7. Use wooden or plastic blocks for a Magic Trick: put three blocks on the floor and put a treat underneath one of them while the dog is looking. Move the blocks around and let the dog show you where the treat is, if he is correct he gets the treat, if not - try again.
  8. The wooden blocks can be used in several ways in many of the games to increase the difficulty level.
  9. Dogs that find it difficult to learn how to fetch, may learn easier with the help of Dog Smart wood.
  10. The games enhance your relationship with your dog.
  11. It's easier for a young dog to learn commandoes like sit, lie down, wait, fetch etc while playing games together with his owner.
  12. The games are great to activate older dogs that are still mentally healthy.
  13. Fun activity indoors when you or your dog is sick or when the weather is bad.
  14. Dogs that refuse to eat will often eat more when using the games to work for food.
  15. The games can be used as interactive food bowls - great for dogs that eat too fast.
